Cardinal Roofing repairs leaking skylights and replaces cracked, fogged or failing units for homes across Pelham and the Birmingham area. Most skylight leaks come from worn flashing or seals, not the glass, so we fix the cause.
Common skylight problems we fix
- Leaks or drips around the frame after rain (failed flashing, step flashing or sealant)
- Condensation or fogging between panes (failed seal)
- Cracked or crazed glass or acrylic
- Water stains or peeling drywall in the skylight shaft
Repair or replace? If the unit is sound and the leak is at the flashing, we re-flash and reseal. If the glazing has failed, the frame is damaged, or you’re replacing the roof anyway, replacing the skylight at the same time is usually the smarter choice, so the new flashing ties in with the new roof.
Choosing a new skylight
Even a well-made skylight won’t last forever. Call us if you notice drafts, wet carpet or furniture below the unit, or warping and bubbling in the surrounding ceiling. Small cracks and failed sealant can often be repaired, but units with large cracks, brittle glazing or more than 20 years of age are usually best replaced.
When it’s time for a new unit, we help you choose between fixed, tubular and ventilating skylights, and pick the right light shaft, glazing and energy-efficient options, including low-E glass and heat-absorbing tints that help keep cooling bills down.
